About PGS
PGS has been building gas grills for decades, and the brand is known for two quite different products. The Legacy grills (models like the Newport, Pacifica and Big Sur) use a cast aluminum grill head, available on posts, carts or as built-ins. PGS also makes commercial grills designed for parks, apartment complexes and HOA pool areas, built to handle many users and constant outdoor exposure.
Cast aluminum is a big part of the appeal near the beach. It doesn't rust the way steel does, so the grill head often outlasts several sets of internal parts.
What we see on PGS grills
- Worn burners and heat parts. The aluminum head lasts, but burners, briquette grates or radiant parts inside still wear out and get replaced.
- Ignition. Igniters that stop sparking, especially on shared grills that get pushed a lot. See igniter replacement.
- Timers and safety controls on commercial units, which can stick or fail.
- Grease buildup. Shared grills see heavy use and inconsistent cleaning, which leads to flare-ups. See flare-ups and grease fires.
- Corrosion at fasteners and posts in coastal areas, even when the head itself is fine.
Cleaning PGS grills
We remove the grates and heat distribution parts, pull and clean the burners, clear ports, and scrape and degrease the inside of the head with a biodegradable cleaner. The grease path and catch cup get cleaned. On commercial units, we check timers and safety shutoffs along with ignition and flame. Cast aluminum is cleaned without harsh caustics, which can discolor it. See grill cleaning for the full process.
For HOAs and property managers
Shared grills need more frequent cleaning and a regular safety check, since many people use them and few clean them. We can set a recurring schedule for your community's grills and report anything that needs repair. See our HOA and community grill service, the HOA grill maintenance guide and commercial cleaning schedules.
PGS parts are generally available, including for many older models, which is part of why these grills last so long in service. The rating label is usually on the grill head or the post; send us a photo of it with the grill, and we'll match parts.
On residential Legacy grills, a common upgrade when we replace internals is moving to stainless parts where they're offered for the model. They hold up better than plated steel, especially within a few miles of the coast.
Shared grills also need clear signage about use and shutoff. When we service community units, we note missing knobs, damaged hoses and anything that could let a user leave the gas running.
PGS questions
Can you service several PGS grills at our complex on a schedule?
Yes. We set up recurring cleaning and safety checks for HOAs and property managers.
Why doesn't my PGS head rust?
The Legacy grill heads are cast aluminum, which doesn't rust like steel. Internal parts still wear and need replacing.
Are you a PGS authorized service center?
No. We're an independent, insured grill company. Warranty questions go to PGS.
Can you replace the timer on a commercial PGS grill?
Usually, yes. We'll confirm the part for your model.
