One city, a lot of different backyards
Pasadena is hard to generalize. A townhome near the Playhouse District has a compact built-in on a ten-foot patio. A 1960s ranch house in Hastings Ranch often still has the original-style island someone added in the nineties, now on its second or third grill head. Up in Linda Vista and along the Lower Arroyo, the outdoor kitchens get bigger: a 42-inch grill, a side burner, a refrigerator, sometimes a pizza oven or a gas fire table nearby.
What they share is heat. Summer afternoons regularly push past 100 degrees here, and a grill that sits in full sun bakes its grease into a hard varnish on the hood liner and heat plates. That varnish holds moisture after the first winter rains and starts eating at the metal underneath. Cleaning before and after the hot months keeps it from getting that far.
What we tend to find, area by area
A rough picture, not a rule. Every grill gets looked at on its own terms.
| Part of town | Typical setup | Usual issues |
|---|---|---|
| Bungalow Heaven, Madison Heights | Freestanding gas grills, some small built-ins behind older homes | Clogged burner ports, rusted heat plates, spiders in the venturi tubes |
| Downtown and Playhouse condos | Compact built-ins on balconies and shared HOA grills | Heavy grease from shared use, worn igniters, sticky knobs |
| Hastings Ranch, East Pasadena | Islands from the 1990s and 2000s | Failing valves, discontinued parts, grills ready for replacement |
| Linda Vista, San Rafael, Lower Arroyo | Full outdoor kitchens with multiple appliances | Neglected side burners, refrigerators, stainless that needs polishing |

Learn moreHow a cleaning visit goes
- 1
Look first
We light the grill if it's safe to, check flame color on each burner and note anything that needs a part.
- 2
Protect the patio
Drop cloths go down around the island. Pasadena has a lot of old brick and flagstone, and we'd rather not stain it.
- 3
Strip and clean
Internal parts come out and get degreased with biodegradable, food-safe cleaners. The firebox and hood get scraped and washed.
- 4
Reassemble and test
Everything goes back in, each burner gets lit and checked, and we tell you what we saw.
Keeping it out of the Arroyo
Rinse water from a grill cleaning carries grease and carbon. Hosed down a driveway, it ends up in the storm drain, and much of Pasadena drains toward the Arroyo Seco. We catch our rinse water and take it with us. More on how we do that on our eco-friendly cleaning page.
Pasadena grill questions
My grill is a brand I can't find parts for anymore. Can you still fix it?
Sometimes. Universal burners and igniters fit more grills than people expect. If the valves or manifold are the problem and nothing fits, we'll tell you straight and talk about replacement. Our guide to discontinued grill parts covers the options.
Do you work in condo complexes with HOA rules?
Yes. Let us know about any parking, access or service-hour rules when you book, and we'll plan around them.
How often should I clean a grill that gets used all summer?
Twice a year is a good rhythm in Pasadena: once in spring and once after the heavy summer stretch.
What does it cost?
That depends on the grill's size, brand, condition and any parts it needs. Send a couple of photos or call or text us for a quote.
