The 20-year-old built-in question

Plenty of Brentwood outdoor kitchens went in during the late 1990s and 2000s, when Viking, DCS and Lynx built-ins became the standard for a nice backyard. Many of those grills are still in their original islands. Some are in great shape. Others have burners that have rusted thin, valves that stick, and a firebox that's been patched more than once.

The decision we help with most here is whether to put money into an older grill or replace it. Our general rule: if the body, hood and valves are sound and parts are still available, a rebuild with new burners, igniters and heat plates usually makes sense. If the firebox is rusted through, the manifold leaks, or the manufacturer stopped making parts years ago, replacement is often the better call. We go through this in more depth in repair or replace your grill.

North of Sunset vs. south of Sunset

Brentwood splits fairly neatly. North of Sunset, in Brentwood Park, Mandeville Canyon, Crestwood Hills and Kenter Canyon, you get large lots, long driveways, and outdoor kitchens that run to multiple appliances. Canyon properties sit up against brush and see more spiders, rodents and ash than the flats. After the January 2025 fires, some homes near the canyons had ash settle into their islands, and a deep cleaning before the next cookout was the right move.

South of Sunset, toward San Vicente and down to Wilshire, there are more condos and apartment buildings with shared pool-deck grills, and townhomes with a single freestanding grill on a small patio. Those need a different kind of visit: quicker, more frequent, and often coordinated through a building manager. We handle HOA and community grills regularly.

Brentwood grill FAQ

My grill is a discontinued model. Can you still fix it?

Often, yes. Some parts are still made under another brand name, and universal parts fit many older grills well. When nothing fits safely, we'll tell you and show you replacement options that fit your cutout.

Will a new grill fit my existing island?

Many will, sometimes with a small adjustment. We measure the cutout and match it to current models. See replacing a grill in the same cutout.

Do you work on pool-deck grills in the condo buildings south of Sunset?

Yes. We coordinate with the building manager on access and service hours, and shared grills can go on a regular schedule so they don't wait until someone complains.

What will it cost?

That depends on size, brand, condition and parts. Call or text, or send photos, and we'll give you a quote.

Keep it or replace it?

Send a couple of photos of your grill and the model tag, and we'll give you an honest read and a quote.
