West Los Angeles sits between Santa Monica and Westwood, roughly from the 405 to Centinela and down past Olympic. It's a practical part of the Westside: apartment buildings along Sawtelle and Barrington, duplexes and fourplexes, and 1940s and 1950s houses on the side streets. Backyards are modest. The grill is often a freestanding gas cart on a patio, sometimes a compact built-in, and it gets used a lot more than the ones in show kitchens.
A grill like that doesn't need polishing to look good for guests. It needs to light every time, heat evenly and not set off a grease fire. That's what most West LA calls come down to.
What we fix most often here
These are the problems behind most West LA calls, roughly in order.
Won't light
Dead igniter batteries, cracked electrodes, or wiring that's corroded through.
Learn moreLow heat on propane
Usually a regulator that's gone into bypass mode, or a tank connection problem.
Learn moreFlare-ups
Rusted-through Flavorizer bars or heat plates letting grease hit the flame.
Learn moreBurned-out burners
Rusted, split or clogged burner tubes that make cold spots.
Learn moreCrumbling grates
Porcelain-coated cast iron that's chipped and rusting.
Learn moreRepair, clean or replace
For a mid-range freestanding grill, the math is simple. If the frame and firebox are solid, replacement burners, heat plates and grates often bring it back to better than it was, especially on a Weber Genesis or Spirit, where parts are easy to get. If the firebox is rusted through or the cart is falling apart, a new grill makes more sense, and we can supply and assemble one. See grill assembly if you've already bought one and don't feel like building it.
For built-ins, a good cleaning and new burners can add years. We'll be straight about which way to go.
Clean without the mess
Small patios and shared yards mean neighbors are close. We put down drop cloths, use food-safe biodegradable degreasers, and catch the rinse water instead of hosing it onto the patio and into the street drain. West LA's storm drains flow toward Ballona Creek and Santa Monica Bay. Details on our methods are on the eco-friendly cleaning page.
We cover all of West LA, including Sawtelle, the streets around the Westside Pavilion site, Sepulveda and the blocks between Olympic and Pico.

West LA FAQ
Do you work on regular freestanding grills, not just built-ins?
Yes. A lot of our work is on freestanding Weber, Napoleon and similar grills.
My propane grill only gets to low heat. Why?
Often the regulator has gone into a safety mode. Turning off all burners and the tank, disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes resets it. If not, the regulator or hose may need replacing.
Can you clean a grill in a rental unit?
Yes, with the tenant's or owner's okay. See our rental grill care guide.
How much is a cleaning?
It depends on the grill's size, brand, condition and parts. Call or text, or send a couple of photos, and we'll quote it.
