Small city, small yards
Hawaiian Gardens is one of the smallest cities in Los Angeles County, about one square mile, tucked between Lakewood, Cerritos and the Orange County line. A lot of the housing is small single-family homes, duplexes, apartments and mobile homes, often with a lot of family living close together. Yards are tight, and the grill usually shares space with everything else: parked cars, laundry lines, kids' bikes.
The grills follow suit. We mostly see compact gas grills, portable tabletop units, kettles and flat-top griddles. They're used a lot and moved around a lot, which is hard on hoses, regulators and the wheels and frames.
What we do most here
Cleaning in tight spaces
We fit drop cloths into whatever room there is and keep grease contained, even on a narrow side yard or upstairs landing.
Learn moreHoses and regulators
Cracked hoses and worn regulators on portable and cart grills are a common, quick repair. They also matter for safety.
Learn moreAssembly
Bought a grill or griddle that came in a box? We assemble it, connect it and leak test it.
Learn moreGriddle care
Flat-tops cleaned, re-seasoned, and burners and igniters checked.
Learn moreFor landlords and property managers
If you own rentals or manage an apartment building with a shared grill, grill problems tend to arrive as a tenant complaint. A shared grill that hasn't been cleaned in a year is a grease fire waiting to happen, and an old hose on a tenant's grill is a real hazard. We can clean and check grills between tenants, or service shared grills on a regular schedule. Our rental property grill care guide has a short checklist, and community grill service covers recurring visits.
A safety check for small-space grilling
Small yards put the grill close to walls, fences and people. A few things worth checking:
- Keep the grill away from walls, fences and anything that can catch fire, per the manufacturer's clearances
- Never use a gas or charcoal grill indoors, in a garage or under a low enclosed overhang
- Check the propane hose for cracks and stiffness every season
- Empty the grease tray regularly, especially on griddles
- Store spare propane tanks outside, upright and away from heat
Repair versus replace on a small grill
On an inexpensive grill, it doesn't always make sense to replace three burners and a valve. We'll tell you honestly when a new grill is the better buy. But a hose, regulator, igniter or a deep clean is usually worth doing. Our guide on repair or replace lays out how to decide.
Hawaiian Gardens questions
Will you come out for a small portable grill?
Yes. If it's a quick fix like a hose or regulator, we'll tell you upfront whether it's worth a visit or something you can handle yourself.
Can you work in a mobile home park?
Yes. We just need a little room beside the grill for drop cloths.
Do you service grills for rental units?
Yes, and we can set up regular visits for landlords and managers.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the grill and what it needs. Send a couple of photos and we'll give you a quote.
