The grill that came with the house
Highland Park has seen a lot of homes change hands in the past decade or so. Craftsman bungalows and older Spanish houses on streets off Figueroa and York have been renovated, sold, rented out and renovated again. Very often the grill on the patio predates the current owner. Nobody knows how old it is, whether it was ever cleaned, or why one burner won't light.
That's a good time for an inspection. We check the gas connections and regulator, light each burner and look at the flame, pull the grates and heat plates to see what's underneath, and tell you honestly whether it's worth keeping. Sometimes a solid grill just needs a deep cleaning and a new igniter. Sometimes the firebox is rusted through and the money is better spent elsewhere. Our used grill checklist covers what we look for.
What a grill inspection covers
- 1
Gas safety
Hoses, regulator, valves and fittings checked and leak-tested.
- 2
Ignition
Igniters, electrodes and wiring tested on each burner.
- 3
Burners and flame
Every burner lit, flame color and height checked, ports looked at for blockages.
- 4
Firebox and internals
Heat plates, grates and the firebox floor inspected for rust-through and grease buildup.
- 5

Rentals, ADUs and shared yards
Plenty of Highland Park lots now have a second unit or ADU in back, and many duplexes and small multi-unit buildings share a yard and a grill. Shared grills get more use and less care than anyone's personal one. Grease builds up, a tenant leaves the burner on, or a hose gets kinked behind the cart.
If you own or manage a rental, a cleaning and safety check once or twice a year goes a long way toward preventing a grease fire or gas problem. We can coordinate directly with tenants for access. See grill care for rentals for the basics.

Getting around
We cover Highland Park from Figueroa up into the hills toward Mount Washington, over to the Garvanza area near the Arroyo and the York Boulevard side by Eagle Rock. Many streets here are steep and narrow with tight parking, so let us know if there's a better spot to leave the truck.
Highland Park FAQ
I have no idea what brand my grill is. Does that matter?
Not for booking. We'll find the label when we get there. If you want to look first, our guide to finding the model and serial number shows where it usually is.
Can you work with my tenant to get access?
Yes. Give us their contact and we'll schedule with them, then send you the report.
How much does an inspection or cleaning cost?
It depends on the grill's size, brand, condition and any parts. Call or text, or send a couple of photos, for a quote.
Find out what shape it's in
Call or text us, or send photos of the grill, and we'll set up a visit.
