Living on the water, cooking on it too
Naples is the cluster of three islands in Alamitos Bay, threaded by the Rivo Alto Canal and the Naples canals, with homes facing the water on most streets. Lots are small and close together. Many houses front a canal walkway, and the outdoor space is a narrow front patio, a rear courtyard or a deck on the second or third floor looking over the water.
That position is the whole story for a grill here. Damp bay air and the morning marine layer deliver salt every day, not just on windy ones. We see stainless start to stain within a season on a grill that's never been cleaned, and burners and igniter electrodes corrode noticeably faster than they would even a mile inland.
How we handle an island visit
Parking and access on the islands take a little planning, so here's what to expect.
- 1
We plan the access
Tell us whether the grill is out front by the canal, in a back courtyard or upstairs. Streets are narrow and parking is tight, so we load what we need into a cart and walk it in.
- 2
Inspect before cleaning
Before anything gets wet we look for burners thinning out, seized fasteners and corroded igniter wires, so you know what you're dealing with.
- 3
Clean and protect
Internals come out and get degreased, the cookbox is cleaned, and the stainless gets a polish that leaves a light protective film against salt.
- 4
Replace what's failing
If a burner, igniter or knob is shot, we replace it from parts on the truck when we can, or order the right one for your model.
Common jobs on the islands
Rust and corrosion repair
Rusted fasteners, pitted burners, crumbling heat plates. We replace the damaged parts and stop the spread.
Learn moreStainless polishing
Brings back hoods and doors that have gone dull and speckled from salt.
Learn moreIgniter replacement
Electrodes and wires corrode fast near the water. A new igniter is often the whole fix for a grill that won't light.
Learn moreTwice-yearly maintenance
A plan that brings us out every six months so salt never gets a full year to work.

Some waterfront grills in Naples are past the point of repair: rusted through at the cookbox, or so old that parts are no longer made. When that happens we can supply and install a new built-in that fits your existing cutout, so the island doesn't need rebuilding. Higher grades of stainless (304 throughout, not just on the hood) hold up far better on the water, and we'll steer you toward models that won't be back in the same condition in three years. Our guide on salt air and grills explains the difference, and grill replacement covers how the swap works.
Naples grill questions
Can you service a grill on a third-floor deck?
Yes. We carry everything up by hand. Let us know about the stairs when you book so we bring the right setup.
How often does a canal-front grill need service?
Twice a year is the minimum we'd suggest. If you grill often and the grill faces the water, some owners do it quarterly.
Do you work on boats or dock grills?
We work on grills at homes. If yours is mounted on a dock attached to the property, ask us and we'll tell you if we can reach it safely.
What will this cost?
That depends on the grill's size, brand, condition and parts needed. Send a couple of photos and we'll give you a quote.
