Ocean below, canyons above
RPV covers a lot of ground. There are homes on the coastal terraces off Palos Verdes Drive South and West, with nothing but a lawn between the patio and the Pacific. There are hillside streets climbing toward the ridge with big backyards and views across the South Bay. And there are neighborhoods backing onto open space and the Portuguese Bend nature preserve, where brush, wildlife and spiders are part of the deal.
Closer to the water, salt is the main concern: staining, corroded igniter wiring and rusted heat plates. Farther up, it's more about what gets into a grill that sits unused for a few weeks. Spiders love the burner tubes. Mice and rats nest in the cabinet under built-ins and chew wiring. In fall, wind can blow dust and debris into everything.
Problems we see, and what fixes them
| What you notice | Common cause in RPV | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Igniter clicks, no flame | Corroded electrode or wire from salt air | Clean or replace the igniter and check the module |
| Weak or yellow flame on one burner | Spider webs in the venturi or burner tube | Pull the burner, clear it, and check gas flow |
| Chewed wires or nesting under the grill | Rodents moving in from nearby open space | Clean out the cabinet, replace damaged wiring, advise on prevention |
| Brown staining on the hood | Salt and grease left sitting | Degrease and polish with the grain |
| Burners with holes or flaking | Years of corrosion from the inside | Replace burners with matched parts |
Before you light it after a break
If the grill has sat for a month or more, take a quick look before you fire it up. Lift the grates and check for webs, nests or droppings. If you see any, skip the cookout and have it cleaned; rodent nesting material near burners is a fire risk. Our guides on spiders in burner tubes and mice and rats in your grill explain what to look for. And if you smell gas at any point, turn it off at the source and call us. The gas smell page covers the safe first steps.

Learn moreRPV grill questions
Rodents got into my built-in. Can the grill be saved?
Usually. We clean out the cabinet and grill body, replace chewed wiring or ignition parts, and test everything. If the gas valves or hoses were damaged, we replace those before the grill goes back into use.
Do you cover the whole city, including the far coast?
Yes, every part of Rancho Palos Verdes, from the coastal neighborhoods to the hillside streets near the ridge.
How often should I schedule service here?
Once a year for most homes. If you're close to the bluffs or the grill sits unused for long stretches, twice a year is worth considering.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the grill's size, brand and condition and whether parts are needed. Call or text us, or send photos, and we'll quote it.
